Airstream Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 15V190000, which involves certain model-year 2015 Interstate motorhomes manufactured from October 6, 2014, through March 25, 2015, and built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The potential number of affected vehicles is 180.
In the affected vehicles, the abutting wedge, a component attached to the door jamb to make opening the door easier after a severe frontal crash, may have been installed incorrectly. If such a crash occurs, a greater force may be necessary to open the doors, increasing the risk of injury.
The recall began in March, with Mercedes-Benz notifying owners. Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect and, if necessary, correct the installation of the abutting wedge. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time. Owners can contact Airstream at (937) 596-6111 or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter at (877) 762-8267.
