Recall Corner: March 2016

March 1, 2016

Entegra Coach has announced NHTSA recall 15V-877, which involves certain model-year 2008 and 2010-2011 Anthem and Aspire, 2008 and 2010 Cornerstone, 2008 Alante and Emblem, and 2009-2011 Insignia motorhomes. The potential number of affected vehicles is 271.

The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert Components Coach Step double and triple electric steps, which use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. The bolt may fracture, allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable. Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.

Entegra will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket on the double-step assemblies. The Coach Step linkage assembly will be replaced and a retainer bracket will be installed on the triple-step assemblies. At press time, a notification schedule had not been released. For more information, contact Entegra customer service at (800) 517-9137 or Lippert customer service at (574) 537-8900.

Forest River Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 15V-806, which involves certain model-year 2014-2016 Legacy motorhomes, models 340BH, 340KP, and 360RB, manufactured from September 12, 2013, to September 25, 2015. The potential number of affected vehicles is 285.

The affected motorhomes have seat belts with shoulder belts that may rest at or below the shoulder of seat occupants. If a shoulder belt rests too low on the torso, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install new seat belt systems. The recall was expected to begin January 19, 2016. For more information, contact Forest River customer service at (574) 293-6137.

Foretravel Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 16V-003, which involves certain model-year 2008 Nimbus motorhomes manufactured from July 9, 2007, to March 25, 2008. The potential number of affected motorhomes is 23.

The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert Components Coach Step double electric steps, which use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. The bolt may fracture, allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable. Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.

Foretravel will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism. The recall was expected to begin February 22, 2016. For more information, contact Foretravel customer service at (936) 564-8367 or Lippert customer service at (574) 537-8900.

Jayco Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 15V-848, which involves certain model-year 2016 Alante motorhomes manufactured from November 3, 2015, to November 23, 2015. The potential number of affected vehicles is 67.

In the affected motorhomes, the forward- and rearward-facing dinette seats have seat belts that may not have the proper plate to anchor the seat belt brackets. This can allow the seat belt end to detach from the vehicle in the event of a crash. A seat belt that is not properly anchored to the vehicle may not restrain the occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will install the correct seat belt bracket backer plate. At press time, a notification schedule had not been released. For more information, contact Jayco customer service at (800) 517-9137.

Newmar Corporation has announced three NHTSA recalls.

The first is recall 15V-803, which involves certain model-year 2014-2015 Dutch Star and Ventana, and 2014 Essex and Mountain Aire motorhomes manufactured from May 31, 2013, to January 21, 2015. The potential number of affected vehicles is 1,085.

In the affected motorhomes, cargo door lock actuators may overheat and melt the actuator housing. A door lock actuator that overheats may increase the risk of a fire.

Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a new low-voltage disconnect module and wire harness for the door lock actuator. The recall was expected to begin January 23, 2016.

The second is recall 15V-808, which involves certain model-year 2012-2015 Canyon Star; 2009-2014 Essex; 2008-2014 King Aire; 2011-2015 Dutch Star, Mountain Aire, and Ventana; 2015 London Aire; and 2012-2014 Ventana LE motorhomes manufactured from January 5, 2007, to March 5, 2015. The potential number of affected vehicles is 979.

In the affected motorhomes, refrigerator door latches may inadvertently lock without the operator’s knowledge. If someone climbed into the refrigerator and the door inadvertently latched, the person would not be able to open the door.

Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a new replacement door latch that will not automatically latch. The recall was expected to begin January 24, 2016.

The third is recall 15V-829, which involves certain model-year 1997-2005 Dutch Star and Mountain Aire, 1997-1998 Kountry Aire, 1998-1999 London Aire, and 2004 Essex motorhomes built on Spartan Motors chassis and manufactured from January 5, 1997, to May 26, 2005. The potential number of affected vehicles is 1,920.

In the affected motorhomes, the steering gear mounting bracket may crack, causing a loss of steering ability. A loss of steering increases the risk of a crash.

Newmar will notify owners, and Spartan Motors will replace the steering gear mounting brackets. The recall was expected to begin February 5, 2016.

For more information about these recalls, contact Newmar customer service at (800) 731-8300. Information about recall 15V-829 also can be obtained by calling Spartan customer service at (800) 543-4277.

Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.

The potential number of affected units is 1,253.

In the affected motorhomes, electrically operated entry/exit steps may extend down and out while the vehicle is moving. If that happens, the steps may strike a person or a vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
