Daimler Trucks North AmerIca LLC has announced two NHTSA recalls.
The first is recall 16V-321, which involves certain model-year 2012-2016 Freightliner XCL, XCM, XCP, and XCR motorhome chassis manufactured from January 23, 2012, to July 23, 2015. The potential number of affected chassis is 4,944.
In the affected vehicles, the throttle pedal position sensor may not return to zero, causing sudden loss of the engine brake, reducing the vehicle’s deceleration ability, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Daimler Trucks will notify owners, and dealers will replace the throttle pedal. The recall was expected to begin July 10, 2016.
The second is recall 16V-327, which involves certain model-year 2015-2016 Freightliner XCR chassis manufactured from May 12, 2014, to December 10, 2015. The potential number of affected chassis is 727.
On the affected chassis, the incomplete vehicle document labels (IVD) incorrectly list the tire pressures as 130 psi in the steer and tag axle positions, rather than the correct rating of 120 psi. If tires are inflated to the incorrect psi, the rims may suddenly fail as a result of being overpressurized, increasing the risk of a crash.
Daimler Trucks has notified Newmar Corporation, the only purchaser of the affected chassis, and has provided Newmar with corrected IVD labels. Daimler Trucks will not notify motorhome owners directly.
For more information about either recall, contact Daimler Trucks customer service at (800) 547-0712.
Newmar Corporation has announced two NHTSA recalls.
The first is recall 16V-270, which involves certain model-year 2015-2016 Ventana and Ventana LE motorhomes manufactured from March 27, 2015, to February 8, 2016, and built on Freightliner chassis. The potential number of affected vehicles is 59.
In the affected motorhomes, the front sway bar mounting brackets may not fit properly on the axle, causing the mounting bolts to bend or loosen. If the sway bar bolts loosen, the sway bar may detach from the axle, affecting the handling and increasing the risk of a crash.
Newmar will notify owners, and dealers for Daimler Trucks North America, the chassis manufacturer, will modify the sway bar mounting. The recall was expected to begin in early July 2016.
The second is recall 16V-280, which involves certain model-year 2014-2015 Essex and 2015 Mountain Aire and London Aire motorhomes manufactured from May 20, 2013, through April 9, 2015, and built on Freightliner rear-engine chassis that have front axles with a capacity of 18,000 pounds or 20,000 pounds. The potential number of affected vehicles is 93.
In the affected motorhomes, the power steering fluid temperature may exceed the power steering hose material rating, which could cause the hose to fail and result in a sudden loss of power steering at low speeds. Loss of power steering would increase the risk of a crash.
Newmar will notify owners, and Daimler Trucks North America dealers will replace the power steering hose with one rated at a higher temperature. The recall was expected to begin in early July 2016.
For more information about either recall, contact Daimler Trucks customer service at (800) 547-0712 or Newmar customer service at (800) 731-8300.
Spartan Motors has announced NHTSA recall 16V-313, which involves certain model-year 2007-2015 Spartan K3 and MM motorhome chassis manufactured from September 21, 2006, to March 23, 2015. The potential number of affected chassis is 2,582.
In the affected vehicles, the flexible exhaust tube may tear, allowing hot exhaust to blow against other components or materials, increasing the risk of fire.
Spartan will notify motorhome manufacturers that purchased the affected chassis, and Spartan technicians will inspect the tube alignment, correcting and replacing any that are torn. The recall was expected to begin in June 2016. For more information, contact Spartan customer service at (517) 543-6400.

In the affected motorhomes, the framing for seat belts in the slideout area may not meet specified strength requirements, potentially allowing the framing to pull loose during a crash and increasing the risk of injury to the occupant of the seat.
Thor Motor Coach will notify owners, and dealers will install reinforcement brackets and plates. A notification schedule had not been set at press time. For more information, contact Thor customer service at (877) 500-1020.
The second is recall 16V-406, which involves certain model-year 2015-2016 Tuscany motorhomes manufactured from July 28, 2014, to July 27, 2015, and built on a Freightliner chassis. The potential number of affected vehicles is 207.
In the affected motorhomes, steering boxes were manufactured using incorrect internal spacers, resulting in premature wear in the connection between the steering wheel and the front axle. As a result, the steering wheel’s connection to the front axle could fail, resulting in sudden loss of steering ability and increasing the risk of a crash.
Thor Motor Coach will notify owners, and dealers for Daimler Trucks, the chassis manufacturer, will replace the steering box, if necessary. Owners are urged not to drive their vehicles until they have been inspected. A notification schedule had not been set at press time. For more information, contact Daimler Trucks customer service at (800) 547-0712 or Thor customer service at (877) 855-2867.
The third is recall 16V-329, which involves certain model-year 2017 Tuscany, Tuscany ZTE, and Venetian motorhomes manufactured from March 15, 2016, to April 7, 2016. The potential number of affected vehicles is 44.
In the affected motorhomes, the isolator relay cable for the chassis battery was improperly installed, which could cause sudden, unexpected loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Thor Motor Coach will notify owners, and dealers will install the isolator relay cable. A notification schedule had not been set at press time. For more information, contact Thor customer service at (877) 500-1020.
The fourth is recall 16V-437, which involves certain model-year 2014-2016 Tuscany motorhomes manufactured from February 28, 2013, to August 31, 2015, and built on chassis supplied by Daimler Trucks North America. The potential number of affected vehicles is 463.
On certain motorhomes built with a heavier, adjustable foot pedal, the brake activation signal to certain towed devices may not deactivate when the motorhome service brakes are released. If the brake activation signal to a towed device remains active when the motorhome chassis service brakes are released, the brakes on a towed device may remain engaged, depending on brake configuration of the towed device. As a result, the brakes would drag and possibly overheat, potentially resulting in a fire. Also, following drivers may be confused by the motorhome’s actions, increasing the risk of a crash.
Thor Motor Coach will notify owners, and Daimler Trucks will modify the affected brake assemblies. A notification schedule had not been set at press time. For more information, contact Thor customer service at (877) 855-2867 or Daimler Trucks customer service at (800) 547-0712.

The potential number of affected vehicles is 539.
In the affected motorhomes, the steering boxes were manufactured using incorrect internal spacers that can cause premature wear in the connection between the steering wheel and the front axle. The steering wheel’s connection to the front axle could fail, resulting in a sudden loss of steering ability, increasing the risk of a crash.
Tiffin has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the steering box and replace it if necessary. Owners are urged not to drive their vehicles until they have been inspected. A notification schedule had not been set at press time. For more information, contact Tiffin customer service at (256) 356-8661.

In the affected motorhomes, the front sway bar mounting brackets may not fit properly on the axle, causing the mounting bolts to bend or loosen. If the sway bar bolts loosen, the sway bar may detach from the axle, affecting the handling and increasing the risk of a crash.
Daimler Trucks North America, the chassis manufacturer, will notify owners, and dealers for Daimler Trucks will modify the sway bar mounting.
The recall began June 7, 2016. For more information, contact Daimler Trucks customer service at (800) 547-0712.
