Tech & Travel Tips: December 2007

Pest Prevention

To keep ants and other pests from crawling into your motorhome through an access hole, treat an old towel with some insecticide and stuff it around the hole.

Border Décor

My new motorhome needed something to spruce up the walls. I went to a wallpaper store and looked through tons of wallpaper border books. Lo and behold, I found a border that matched the dinette, bedroom, and pillows that came with the motorhome. The border was easy to apply and can always be changed later. Even the bathroom received a snazzy border, and I matched it with towels and a rug.

Packaging Material

When you need to mail a package in brown paper, instead of keeping a roll of paper that you seldom use, just use a brown paper bag that you’d get from the grocery. The paper quality is good; they come in assorted sizes; and the price is right.

Mirror Protectors

To keep your rearview mirrors clean and prevent birds from flying into them, purchase a pair of oversized hats and place them over the mirrors. These types of hats can be found at discount stores.

Refrigerator Wall Protection

It was upsetting to see black vibration marks on the interior walls of the refrigerator in our new motorhome. I purchased a roll of rubberized shelf liner (20 inches wide, 6 feet long) and cut out one horizontal piece to fit the entire back wall of the refrigerator. The top of the liner hooks onto three small plastic suction cups that are attached across the top of the wall, allowing the liner to drop down behind the vegetable drawers. I used vertical pieces of the liner for the side walls of the refrigerator, attaching them at the top with a pair of suction cups. The leftover pieces were used to line the door holders. The liners are easy to clean and easy to replace.
