Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has announced NHTSA recall 12V405000, which involves, among others, 2009 through 2012 model-year Cascadia, Coronado, and Business Class M2 chassis built from July 7, 2008, through December 15, 2011, and equipped with perpendicular air tank mounting brackets. These chassis may have been used in the production of super-size Type C motorhomes. The potential number of vehicles included in this recall is 1,663, with 1,590 of those Cascadia, Coronado, or Business Class M2 chassis.
On the affected chassis, the air tank mounting brackets may develop cracks, which could lead to the brackets separating from the frame rail. Air tank separation from the vehicle could result in loss of air in the brake system, possibly leading to increased stopping distances. Also, an air tank that becomes separated from a moving vehicle may create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
A DTNA service center will replace the mounting brackets with more robust brackets. The repair is expected to take approximately 45 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.

Fleetwood RV Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 12V412000 (Fleetwood recall 120813FRV), which involves 2013 model-year Excursion motorhomes built from March 27, 2012, through July 24, 2012. The potential number of vehicles involved is 74.
On the affected motorhomes, a threaded fastener installed on the turn shaft of the slideout mechanism may come in contact with a portion of the diesel fuel fill hose while the turn shaft is rotating. If the fastener makes contact with the fuel fill hose, it is possible that the fastener could abrade the hose and cause it to leak. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, increases the risk of a fire.
A Fleetwood RV Inc. dealer will inspect the affected motorhomes for contact between the fastener and the diesel fuel fill hose, and shorten the fastener as necessary to achieve the appropriate clearance from the fill hose. If it is determined that the fuel fill hose has been damaged, it will be replaced. The repair is expected to take approximately 30 to 50 minutes, depending on whether the fuel line needs to be replaced. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.
