Stainless-Steel Screws

As the years went by, I noticed that many of the exterior screws on our motorhome had begun to rust, with several of them corroding away to nothing. To solve this problem — and to give me something to do when I’m bored — I started to replace the old screws with stainless-steel screws. I found that 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch, and 1-inch #8 screws covered just about all the replacements. I had no idea just how many screws are used to hold the exterior bits and pieces together. As I removed an old screw, I put a small squirt of silicone adhesive in the hole before installing the new screw. Boxes of 100 screws are available at home improvement stores for approximately $4.50. The new screws look better than the old, rusted parts.

Editor’s note: Even stainless-steel screws can snap off if tightened too much, so use care when installing the new ones.

Antenna Reminder

When we are in camp, we attach a potato chip bag clip to the top of the steering wheel as a reminder that the TV antenna is up. With the clip on the steering wheel, it is very hard to drive without knowing something is amiss. When we are ready to travel and the antenna is down, the clip goes on the antenna crank handle.

Recipe Holder

There is never enough counter space when preparing a dish from a recipe, so I remove the page from a recipe book, place it in a fork, and put the fork in a glass. This keeps the recipe up, out of the way, and takes up hardly any space.
