When a chapter convenes its 20th anniversary rally just before Thanksgiving, members have more than one reason to celebrate. Such was the case when members of the Gulf Coast Pelicans chapter gathered from November 19-22, 2015, at Upriver RV Resort in North Fort Myers, Florida.
The chapter, chartered on September 30, 1995, consists of more than 40 coaches and 100 members who are located primarily in southwest Florida, although members frequently attend FMCA rallies all around the United States. Twenty-seven motorhomes were parked at the anniversary rally, with 60 members attending.
Activities included games such as golf, cornhole, and Liar Liar; sharing RV tips and travel ideas; an RV items swap/sale; breakfasts and a dinner outing; the annual business meeting and election of officers; and happy hours.
On Saturday, members enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Members were surprised and delighted by two professional clowns who provided entertainment. Those clowns just happened to be incoming chapter president Linda Michel and her husband, Richard Ridgill. Laughter, balloons, and smiles filled the room.
A spirit of giving prevailed as many chapter members brought wrapped Christmas gifts for needy children. A large anniversary cake and ice cream capped off the celebrations.
The anniversary celebration was hosted by chapter president Alice Johnson and her husband, Richard, who is also the chapter’s national director. Three other families served as co-hosts.
