Newmar Corporation has announced two NHTSA recalls.
Recall 15V061000 involves certain model-year 2014-2015 King Aire and Essex motorhomes manufactured from December 9, 2013, to December 16, 2014, on Spartan chassis equipped with certain Wabco quick-release double-check valves. The potential number of units affected is 98.
In the affected vehicles, the rubber diaphragm of the valves may be damaged by sharp edges on the valve seat ribs, reducing the available air pressure in the air tanks. The reduced air pressure may reduce braking performance and/or the parking brakes could reapply, increasing the risk of a crash.
Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the valves as necessary. The inspection and repair are expected to take approximately one hour; however, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.
Recall 15V062000 involves certain model-year 2015 Essex motorhomes manufactured from March 13, 2014, to November 13, 2014, and built on Spartan chassis. The potential number of affected units is 30.
In the affected vehicles, the steering shaft may disconnect or slip because of the steering column having inadequate spline engagement at the steering gear. If the steering shaft disconnects or slips, the loss of steering control would increase the risk of a crash.
Spartan will notify owners on behalf of Newmar, and dealers will replace the steering shaft. The repair is expected to take approximately one hour; however, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.
