San Diego is fully open for business, and our world-class destination and visitor experience are as extraordinary as ever.

All of San Diego’s restaurants, arts and culture venues, and major attractions “” our beautiful bay fronts and 70 miles of coastline; Balboa Park; LEGOLAND California; SeaWorld San Diego; San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park “” are welcoming guests as always. Our colorful communities and neighborhoods, like downtown’s historic Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Bernardo, and Julian, are full of unique shopping opportunities and popular activities to enjoy year-round.

San Diego is wonderfully carefree and provides a clean and safe environment. Our region continues to offer the world-class service and the visitor experience one expects and associates with our beautiful destination.

So, if you have existing travel plans to San Diego or are considering a trip here in the near future, we encourage you to do so.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

A Big Thanks To Pinch-Hit Driver

Dear Editor:
We would like to thank FMCA for its Pinch Hit Driver program and specifically thank Doug and Jeanne Crabb, F245989, of Apple Valley, California, for coming to our rescue in July 2007. While on vacation I injured my back as my wife and I were on our way home to Fort Mohave, Arizona. I had driven from San Diego to Victorville, California, and we spent the night in an RV park before we planned to continue home the next morning. But the next morning we were in trouble, for I could no longer drive our 40-foot diesel pusher towing our Jeep Liberty, and my wife, Pat, could not drive it, either. She contacted the FMCA pinch hit driver in the area, and in no time we were on the road with Doug at the wheel and Jeanne following behind in their personal vehicle. Doug and Jeanne got us home safely, and my wife took me to the emergency room.

Thank you so much for the FMCA Pinch Hit Driver program, and thank God for Doug and Jeanne Crabb.

Editor’s Note: The purpose of FMCA’s Pinch Hit Driver program is to assist members who encounter any type of emergency that prohibits them from driving their coach while away from home. FMCA members who have volunteered to serve as pinch-hit drivers when needed are listed each year in the “Stoppin’ Spots” section of the January member benefits issue (page 275 of this issue) and on the Membership channel online at FMCA.com. Contact the national office (800-543-3622; e-mail: membership@fmca.com) for additional information about how to enlist the assistance of a pinch-hit driver or to volunteer to serve in this capacity.

Ultrastar Manual

Dear Editor:
A little more than a year ago, I purchased a 31-foot 1990 Champion Ultrastar and have been very pleased with it. I found out after many inquiries that the company went out of business a few years back.

I have tried all ways that I know of to find an operators manual for my coach but haven’t had any success. I am hoping that fellow FMCA members can help. My wife and I really enjoy the Ultrastar, but there are many small, important things that we know nothing about, and an operators manual would help.

I have to say that Champion had to have built more than one unit; somewhere, there is someone who owns one like mine. I am willing to pay for the manual or for a copy of it.

Thank you.

Everyone’s Favorite Cowboy Poet

Dear Editor:
In the November 2007 issue on page 113, in the article “Campground In The Canyon,” is the picture of a cowboy described as “a performer” at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada. This is such an understatement for Waddie Mitchell, who not only is a fantastic performer but has been for more than 20 years. We’ve been privileged to hear his poignant, sometimes hilariously funny, poetry. But he’s also been a working cowboy, a rancher, and a longtime resident of northern Nevada. Certainly he should not remain nameless!

Overall, the article was extremely complete and complimentary to Nevada.
