You’ve heard that you can’t judge a book by its cover, and that can be said for the Hall of Flame Museum of Firefighting in Phoenix, Arizona. It is housed in a rather plain, single-story building, but its simplicity belies what’s inside — nearly 300 years of mechanized firefighting history.
Are you also wondering what there is to see in Arizona? One of our favorites happens to be the town of Bisbee, located in the southeastern corner of the state, only 8 miles from the Mexico border.
Deviating from our finely honed travel plans — to great protest, I might add — we left Interstate 40 at exit 311 in eastern Arizona just to learn whether Petrified Forest National Park was worth seeing. Did this flat, featureless, high desert plateau really have anything to offer?
